Key terms for understanding MTG probability and statistics.

  • Binomial Coefficient

    Also known as: n choose k, C(n,k)

The number of ways to choose kkk items from a set of nnn items, regardless of order (i.e., drawing cards A, B, C is the same as drawing C, B, A). Written as (nk)\binom{n}{k}(kn), C(n,k)C(n,k)C(n,k) or “n choose k”. Fundamental to calculating probabilities in MTG, such as the number of ways to draw a specific combination of cards from your deck.

    (nk)=n!k!(n−k)!\binom{n}{k} = \frac{n!}{k!(n-k)!}(kn)=k!(n−k)!n!
